Sex, Drugs .... and the Stock Market.

I think if you want to do movie reviews you should do so while the movie if fresh in your head. I just finished the Wolf of Wall street. I have never seen it before. In truth I just recently felt like watching it. So here are a few thoughts.

The Cast.

Leonardo DiCaprio. Yes I am a fan of his. I've liked him ever since he was on Growing Pains. I have actually enjoyed almost every film he has been in. His performance was quiet good. He narcissistic money hungry jerk.

Margot Robbie. We know her as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. I loved her as Jane in Legend of Tarzan. (Finally a Jane who had some personality.) This film truly highlighted her acting ability. (It also showed more of her then I ever thought I would see ….)

I want to mention Jon Bernthal (He played the Punisher in the Netflix series) Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man 1 & 2 plus He played Happy Hogan. Rob Reiner, “Meathead” from All in the Family. (Lucky guy got to kiss Leo.)

This film was based on a true story. I notice that Leo has appeared in many of these types of films. No complaints, He does a good job at it. Since a movie seems to need a “star” rating I will go by 5 stars. This one receive 3.5. Meaning I find it worth watching again sometime.

Greetings True Believers ....

Last night was the network television premier of Avengers: Infinity War. I remember when I saw this in the theater. My niece took me as a birthday gift. The thrill of seeing Thanos at last, fighting the Hulk, gathering the Infinity Stones. The bickering between Iron Man and Doctor Strange. The romance of the Vision and the Scarlet Witch.

Wait a minuet ... maybe we need some more explanation. I've been reading the Avengers comic book since I was a little kid. Presented here is the cover of the first issue I ever read. Characters I met for the first time include Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Wasp, Hank Pym (Yellowjacket), Vision and Scarlet Witch (who had just returned from their honeymoon!) So having read these stories through out my child, teen, and adult life you might be able to imagine my excitement. I was finally seeing my heroes in action.

Then comes the part about the MCU that bothers me the most. The idiotic fans. They complain about how the film isn't like the comic or any number of little things that really don't matter. As I write this I am re-watching the first Avengers movie for the first time in a few years. I am catching so many "errors."

But you know what?

I still like the movie.

And I'm looking forward to future MCU movies.

Maybe I should review them all?

Who watches these Blogs

When I decided to start this Blog I wondered what my first review would be. Yes, I have considered making one for over a year. (Do I win the "Procrastination Award.")  So the winner to first review goes to .... the Watchmen!

The year is 1985 (I think) DC Comics had come out with a series of direct sale only comics. Theses included the new Titans, Legion of Super-heroes and others. Sales were good enough that they did a couple mini-series: the Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen.

Watchmen was one of those series that is considered "ground-breaking." Many of the things that are pretty common place in comics today were done their for the first time.

The year is 2009.
The min-series has been turned into a film. I wish to point out the series writer Alan Moore has never approved of any of his stories being adapted to film. I can understand this, which is why I keep my stories to myself.

I found the movie to be one of the most faithful adaptions of a comic I have ever seen. The ending was changed, but considering how the world had changed it made sense. If you like super-hero movies I recommend this film. (Try and find the extended edition.)

The year is 2019. HBO announces a new series Watchmen.
I'm intrigued but skeptical.

The first episode did not catch my interest.
One week later I gave it another try. This time it held more interest. By episode 3 I was hooked. I began to notice how the creators had gone to the trouble of making the series so much like the comic had been. By the end of the series I finally caught all the subtle things they included that the casual watcher might have missed.

As I write this I am binge watching the series for the first time.

Since this is my first review please let me know how I might improve future reviews. Thanks for reading.

Previously on ......

So for those who wander in and find this let me tell you what it might be about.
I like Star Trek, Super-Heroes, Doctor Who, and so much more. I see on line how a film gets horrible reviews, but it's a film I enjoy. I see people hate on Star Trek Discovery, but it's really good. I see headlines that say "Fans want this to be done." I ask myself who are these idiots?

Why am I qualified to write these reviews? Well, why is anyone. I'm a fan. I try to pride myself on seeing the good and bad in something. But I wont just hate on something without a reason. Let me give you an example. I don't like "hospital shows." I didn't watch ER or House and never will. (OK, I watched one episode of House.) But this doesn't make them bad shows. And just because I don't like them doesn't mean I'm going to try and convince everyone on the internet they're bad.

I didn't like the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." But Will Smith is a great actor. As I write this I am watching "Gemini Man." "Hancock," "I, Robot," "Suicide Squad." Will Smith made those movies great. (Lets not forget the "Men in Black.")

Enough explanation. I hope you enjoy this blog and will come back for more.

In the Beginning ....
